K 116-117, Scarlatti auf MySpace

30 03 2007

K 117 (L 244) in C-Dur, Allegro. "This is an isolated sonata written throughout for two voices in alternate quavers for right and left hand." (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.88).

29 03 2007

K 116 (L 452) in c-moll, Allegro. "A Spanish dance movement in 3/8 time containing many flamenco inspired harmonies. As in many of the sonatas from the set copied in 1749 the keyboard writing is very flamboyant and virtuoso with frequent crossing of the hands.”

K 115, Scarlatti In Paradise - Natural Theatre Company

28 03 2007

K 115 (L 407) in c-moll, Allegro. "A powerful work whose demonic drive is frequently interrupted by dramatic pauses. Modulations to related major keys provide some relief from the sombre character of this work.”

PARADISE ARRIVES IN GERMANY

16th February 2004

He's had a Birthday Party, a Wedding and thought that he'd had his Revenge, but for the arrogant harpsichord maestro Domenico Scarlatti, the British Natural Theatre Company think there's only one place left for him to go - Paradise!

This latest instalment, Scarlatti In Paradise, will follow on from the success of the internationally renowned Scarlatti's Birthday Party (1985), Scarlatti's Wedding (1990) and Scarlatti's Revenge (1998) and will feature the timely death of our hero...at last! Scarlatti will be pitting his wits against the scandalous violin virtuoso Paganini and all the familiar Natural Theatre features will be included - fantastically skilled musicians, wonderfully witty songs and an astonishingly array of fast costume changes.

This final episode has been written by Ralph Oswick (who will be portraying Scarlatti) and Chris Dickins (as the outrageously bewigged Farinelli). Chris Dickins has once again arranged and adapted some thrilling music, all of which will be played live by the cast. They will be joined on stage by Ben Livingstone as Handel, Rab Handleigh as Paganini and John A Sampson as Bach.

"I'm really looking forward to returning to Germany. As one of the surviving members of the original Scarlatti cast, I have performed with the Naturals for over 20 years and am sure that this will be the best production yet" said Mr Sampson

The production premiered in Bath on 13th February to huge acclaim. The talented performers were met with sold out performances and, as one reviewer stated, "this is the slickest, funniest and most brilliant musical". You don’t need to have seen the previous productions or be particularly musical to enjoy it - just be able to appreciate a couple of hours of fun!

K 114, M.Boyd: Master of Music

27 03 2007

K 114 (L 344) in A-Dur, Spirito e presto. Da wird meinen Ohren schwindlig. Virtuos! "Kk 114 provides a contrast by means of varied rhythms. Everything is reminiscent of traditional Spanish music. The opening is in nature of a country festival and there follows, in the second half, a descending seven-note throaty Flamenco chant decorated with trills, rhythmic figurations and rocketing scales.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.87).

Gestern im Briefkasten: Malcolm Boyd: Domenico Scarlatti – Master of Music. New York: Schirmer Books 1987 (ISBN 0-02-870291-3) M.Boyd bietet eine umfassende Biografie und Werkverzeichnis inkl.Bibliografie.

Aus dem Klappentext: "Domenico Scarlatti has always been recognized as one of the most original composers of the Baroque – indeed, of any epoch. He is primarily known for his splendid harpsichord sonatas, but Scarlatti also wrote excellent vocal music, both sacred and secular, which until recently was known only to a handful of experts. In the past 30 years, however, the extant vocal compositions have been augmented by the discovery of no fewer than three complete operas, two masses, several chamber cantatas, and other church compositions. This remarkable biography comes at a time when that music is at last starting to appear in print, and it is the first in any language to survey Scarlatti´s complete ouevre in depth.
Malcolm Boyd, drawing on the latest research into the composer´s life and work, creates a vivid portrait of Scarlatti´s career in all its accomplished variety. He offers a wealth of biographical detail: from his musically talented family to contemporaries Bach and Handel; from his position as maestro di cappelle at St.Peter´s in the Vatican to his royal patrons – Queen Maria Casimira of Poland, for whom he wrote his earliest operas and oratorios; King John V of Portugal; and Queen Maria Barbara of Spain, for whom he composed most of his sonatas.
Scarlatti adopted and mastered three contrasting musical styles: the predominantly vocal style of opera, oratorio, cantata, and serenata; the essentially instrumental style of the later harpsichord sonatas; and the unaccompanied polyphony of the church music. Such simultaneous command was exceptional, and perhaps unique. And while his major claim to fame centers on the keyboard works, the vocal compositions further display his astonishing versatility, showing him to be a more complete master of music than previously thought.
The book is divided into three sections, dealing with the composer´s years in Italy, Portugal, and Spain. Biographical chapters alternate with those focusing on the music primarily associated with those periods: operas and oratorios; serenatas and chamber cantatas; and the early and late keyboard works, the last including new information on sources andon new methods of interpretation. The material is supplemented throughout with 43 musical examples, and a concluding chapter offers a retrospective of Scarlatti´s reputation and influence up to the present day. In addition, there is a lengthy biography, extensive footnotes, a detailed genealogy of the Scarlatti family, and four appendixes: Scarlatti arrangements; the full text of his will; the scores of two previously unpublished sonatas; and a complete listing of his compositions.”

(Domenico Scarlatti: Stabat mater a dieci voci. Rinaldo Alessandrini, Concerto Italiano. K 110-113

26 03 2007

K 113 (L 345) in A-Dur, Allegro. Hier merkt man, wie technisch anspruchsvoll dieses Stück ist: "...extremely rapid left cross-hand leaps over the whole compass of the keyboard.”

25 03 2007

K 112 (L 298) in B-Dur, Allegro. "This monothematic sonata hinges around the rhythms constantly taken up by the left hand.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.87). Aha.

24 03 2007

K 111 (L 130) in g-moll, Allegro. "The bulk of this curious piece consists of a motif ot two off-the-beat chords for the right hand. The figure appears twenty-six times, so with the repeats, one actually hears it fifty-two times!” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.87). Scarlatti als Vorläufer der seriellen Musik !? Klingt gut.

23 03 2007

K 110 (L 469) in a-moll, Allegro. "...a piece which quivers with syncopated rhythms, trills, repeated notes and notes alternated between two hands.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.87). Ein Stück für Klaviervirtuosen. Klingt sehr ansprechend.

K 108-109

22 03 2007

K 109 (L 138) in a-moll, Adagio.

21 03 2007

K 108 (L 249) in g-moll, Allegro. "...is incredibly powerful. The harpsichord turns into an orchstra complete with timpani.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.86).

K 103-107, Scarlatti Tilt

20 03 2007

K 107 (L 474) in F-Dur, Allegro.

19 03 2007

K 106 (L 437) in F-Dur, Allegro.

18 03 2007

K 105 (L 204) in G-Dur, Allegro.

The Revenge of the Lawn" (New York: Touchstone/Simon and Schuster 1971, ISBN: 0-671-20961-2)

Sie besteht aus nur zwei Sätzen bzw. 37 Worten:

Scarlatti Tilt
"It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play the violin." That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

Komponisten Christoph Herndler (The Scarlatti Tilt 1991, 15:00 min, Besetzung: Kammerorchester/Ensemble, Auftragswerk der LIVA)

The Story Of SCARLATTI TILT(so far)
Members of Bristol based band Soma formed Scarlatti Tilt in 2004, with the current line-up being cemented (after losing 2 members - one to misanthropy and the other to the MI5) in early 2005.

A shared love of all things tinged with melancholy meant that initial pop-ditties were abandoned in favour of something a little darker. Now referencing their own sinister world, the songs evoke tales of debauched joyful nights, followed by sorrowful mornings, against a backdrop of barrooms and bedrooms.

Funded purely by determination and enthusiasm, the band formed their own label, Simmo Publications Ltd and in early 2005 recorded their EP "The One Under”. The band worked hard on creating an EP that represented the rich diversity of the band's sound, but yet maintained a consistent feel and interesting balance. The One Under was launched at a headline gig at the Carling Academy, Islington. A jaunt around the UK, in support of the EP, proved successful, despite double bookings with grindcore-metal bands and having to sleep in drug dens along the way.

With all speeding tickets from the tour now paid, the band 2006 re-entered the studio to work on their debut album. "Gathering of the Haunted” was released February 2007 on the band’s own label, the band are following this up with another UK tour in April as well as a trip across the pond to see their American friends, following the support of the LA based Rainy Day Records.

K 104 (L 442) in G-Dur, Allegro. "Kk 104 is called a toccata in the Münster and the Vienna manuscripts. The piece is full of contrasts, such as alternating notes, ostinato chords supporting melodic commentaries, and hand crossing motifs which create the illusion of the music being played by three hands.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.86).

16 03 2007

K 103 (L 233) in G-Dur, Allegrissimo.

Roberto Pagano schreibt im Begleitheft: "...Domenico Scarlatti takes a unique position; he conceived his Stabat Mater as a ‘return to the past’, and structured it polyphonically, using ten voices, but without recourse to the technique of two antiphonal blocks. ... Latching on to archaic traditions is Scarlatti´s starting point, but the fact that he treats the ten voices completely independently (they double up in five parts in only two sections) and has decided not to use the traditional antiphonal opposition of two five-part groups mentioned above, indicates a deliberate intention to explore unusual paths more than ever neglected by his contemporaries, whether opera composers or not.” Rinaldo Alessandrini begründet es so: "The Madrid Mass, originally written for four voices, was here recorded using two choirs in unison, laid out in varying dispositions in the course of the work. Diverse sources, especially from Rome, testify this usage. It is even possible that the mass may have been performed in this way by Scarlatti himself. This arrangement of several choirs in unison adds a spatial element to the performance, generating a façade of sound from multiple sources, and creating a greater number of combinations of sonority thanks to the diversity of timbre of the singers.”

K100-102, "Un Gioco Ardito" Rezension

15 03 2007

K 102 (L 89) in g-moll, Allegro.

14 03 2007

K 101 (L 494) in A-Dur, Allegro.

K 100 (L 355) in C-Dur, Allegrissimo.

K96-99, Domenico Scarlattis geistliche Werke

12 03 2007

K 99 in c-moll, Allegro.

11 03 2007

K 98 in e-moll, Allegrissimo.

K 97 in g-moll, Allegro. ... It doesn´t appear in the main sources and the compass is wider than in any of the sonatas which Scarlatti wrote around this time.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.85). Kirkpatrick bemerkt dazu nichts.

K 96 (L 465) in D-Dur, Allegrissimo. "This splendid piece of work deserves its fame both for the variety of its themes and for the orchestral nature of the writing. It opens with the brass and the subsequent figures have a mandolin accompaniment. Each half has a polyphonic passage leading to a grand tutti closing.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.85).

Scarlatti Filme & Soundtracks

05 03 2007

K 93 (L 336) in g-moll. "The theme is rather academic and the four voices move along most of the time in parallel.” (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.84). Klingt aber trotzdem gut.

06 03 2007

K 94 in F-Dur. Für Alain de Chambure hat es eine für Scarlatti unübliche Form: "The opening theme reappears without alteration a few bars before the end." (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.85).

07 03 2007

K 95 (L 358) in C-Dur. Scheint ziemlich anspruchsvoll zu spielen zu sein: "This sonata is by way of being a study for right-hand crossing over a non-stop triplet figuration played by the left hand." (Begleitbuch zu Scarlatti The Sonatas Scott Ross, Erato Disques 1988,S.85).

D.Scarlatti & Ballett, K 90-92

03 03 2007

K 90 (L 106) in d-moll, Grave – Allegro - – Allegro. Besetzung wie schon K 88 sowie K 91: Cembalo, Violine und Cello. Entspannungsmusik höchster Güte und in bestem Sinn.

04 03 2007

K 91 (L 176) in G-Dur, Grave – Allegro – Grave – Allegro. Sie steht K 90 in nichts nach.

05 03 2007

K 92 (L 362) in d-moll. Abgezirkelte Tanzschritte.

K 89, Naxos complete

02 03 2007

K 89 (L 211) in d-moll, Allegro – Grave – Allegro.

Scarlatti recorded in record time

Pianist Francesco Nicolosi has recorded the latest volume in Naxos’ complete keyboard sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti. Perhaps a natural affinity between musician and composer, both originated in Southern Italy, meant the sessions concluded in record time. Performing at Potton Hall, Suffolk, England, Nicolosi played with a crisp, lively and bel canto style, recording the complete CD in six hours on 2 February. After two small corrections were made the album was complete by noon the following day. (http://www.naxos.com/news/default.asp?pn=News&displayMenu=Naxos_News&op=286)

28 02 2007

K 87 (L 33) in h-moll.

01 03 2007

K 88 (L 36) in g-moll, Grave – Andante moderato – Allegro – Minuet.
